Federal Trade Commission/Office of the Secretary, Room H-135 (Annex W) Re: Business Opportunity Rule, R511993 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20580 RE: Business Opportunity Rule, R511993 Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing this letter because I am concerned about the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I believe that in its current form, it could seriously hurt my small business. I have been in the direct sales / multi level marketing industry for more than 25 years. During some of this time, I have earned enough to support my family completely - other times the income has been supplemental - but still extremely important. Actually, I could not stay in my home without the income from my MLM business. And as a single parent , with three children still at home, having our home is important - and all up to me to pay for. My MLM income is critical for my family. I have been proud of all the products I have represented and find them to be of an unusually high quality. Some of the sections in the proposed rule would make it more difficult for me to sell my FreeLife products. This waiting period will give the public the idea that there’s something wrong with me or our plan and also reflects badly on me. I also think this seven-day waiting period is unnecessary, because FreeLife already has a NINETY DAY money back guarantee! One of the most difficult sections of the proposed rule is the seven day waiting period to enroll a new Marketing Executive. FreeLife's sales kit only costs $35. People buy TVs, cars, and other items that cost much more than that and they don’t have to wait seven-days. Under this waiting period requirement, I will need to keep very detailed records when I first speak to someone a prospect and will then have to send in reports to my company. I am a small home business and this burden can hurt or destroy my business. Most of us work our businesses around jobs and family and this would be horribly time consuming. This proposed rule is not a good one for people and the economy. Finally, the proposed rule requires the disclosure of a minimum of 10 prior purchasers nearest to the prospective purchaser. I am glad to provide references, but in this day of identity theft, I am very uncomfortable giving out the personal information of individuals (without their approval) to strangers. With the FreeLife 90 day money back guarantee, this seems just so unnecessary and cumbersome. I don't need anymore paperwork - especially if it doesn't help and just hinders, making a living. Network marketing also helps the US economy by bringing international income to the US. We need our government leaders to make this easier , not more difficult. I have worked my businesses online since 1994 and have seen many scams. This rule will not stop scams or scammers – they violate the current rules all the time. But it will hurt me and my children.. Thank you and please help keep the growth of network marking a reality. Sincerely, Colleen Crush
