I do believe that this act is a good one to prevent the consumer from being taken but when you are dealing with a company such as Avon that has been around for since 1886, I don't believe that this act will do much besides make it hard for us to get people working that need to make money now. They can't wait an additional 7 days, they want to start their business now. Could this act be put into place with companies that have only been around for a certain period of time? Or that aren't reputable? Or could a website or paperwork be provided to warn the consumer? The consumer doesn't have to wait a week to buy a TV, a car or even a house (which are huge purchases and should not be taken lightly) but to have the opportunity to make money, a consumer has to wait? And shouldn't the consumer then have to wait before starting a job with a company that isn't very reputable? And how about all of the people that lost their 401Ks due to mismanagement such as the case of Enron? We, unfortunately, can not be protected against everything. Yes, I feel sorry for those individuals that are sucked into high-pressured sales people - so what are you going to do to stop the car sales people? The insurance agents ... or even the lawyers that are the "ambulance chasers"? Snake oil schemes have been around since the beginning of time. And no, I don't advocate them. I do advocate the consumer being informed thought about their decision to start their own business and what it is they are getting involved in. That is what we should be focused on. Should all companies (be it a direct sales company or a flower shop or grocery store or garage or accounting firm or hair shop, etc) have to give the numbers of people that have left that specific company? I think if this act is passed, then I would say yes. What's fair for one company is fair for all. But wait ... life isn't fair ... is it? And trust me, this act will NOT be fair for those of us in the direct sales industry that are with a reputable company that stands not only behind their products, their Representatives but also behind every single person on this Earth by providing a product that is well-researched at a fair price by Representatives that earn a profit but providing a service of knowing the product and delivering that product to the consumer and then Avon ALSO is there to help with Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence to better each and every one of us so that we can BE THE BEST THAT WE CAN BE!
