My comments pertain to the following proposal: PART 437--BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY RULE As a small business person who has several "memberships" with both wholesalers and MLM companies, this whole proposal sounds like "big brother". I don't mind stating that I am a Republican, and that I enjoy the freedom to pursue a home-based business. However, I do NOT want MY personal name, address, or any other information given to "new members" when they sign up with one of my suppliers. I have been "in business" since 1998 with some of my suppliers. We have good working relationships. These are honest companies. Myself and these very companies will be adversely affected if this proposal gets passed. I will not know WHO has MY information, and I will have no rights to require their personal information. Do you not see how this could lead to not only identity theft, but to unsavory business practices by "new members" trying to sell the same products as I in the same area. As is, if I attend a craft fair, flea market, etc kind of thing, I risk "newbies" as I call them trying nasty tricks to steal my loyal customers. I don't need a law that gives these people MY name and address. I'm all for healthy competition, but this is ridiculous. Yes, I understand you are trying to protect all of us from the wolves out there selling "air" (as in nothing), hyping it up with promises to help us succeed, taking our money, and running. However, what this proposal wants to do will hurt more than help. From MY standpoint, people need to read and research before signing on with any business. If they blindly go into a business with sharks before they do their own homework, no one is to blame but them. PT Barnum (of circus fame) once said "there is a sucker born every minute". That is still true today. Legislation cannot fix stupidity when someone refuses to check out a business before handing them their wallet. I am an intelligent woman who HAS researched before choosing my suppliers. Please don't pass a law that requires them to give away my information to people who will be MY competitors, and in my very backyard. Please, give us a break! Ditch this proposal. If you think further legislation is needed, I strongly encourage you to think of something that does NOT include providing MY personal information to people I do not know without my consent. Would you want YOUR name, address, and all YOUR business suppliers published and given to YOUR business competition without YOUR consent? I don't think so!!! Well, neither do I. Do not make companies like Avon, EcoQuest, Home Interiors, Mary Kay, Nature's Sunshine, NuSkin, Pampered Chef, Party Lite, SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corp), Tupperware, or any other similar company that requires "membership" disclose names of it's current members to new members!!! Thank you!!!
