As a former constultant to many small businesses, non-profit businesses and Fortune 500 companies, I must tell you I am deeply concerned about the current FTC Business Opportunity Rule proposal. This ruling would create an undue burden of effort and additional labor costs for many businesses. It would create wasteful time and resources between businesses who already have established business practices with each other. It would greatly encumber new sales opportunities for new and growing businesses. It creates an unncessary encumberance of paperwork and reporting requirements, significantly increasing the cost of doing business for small businesses. It creates yet one more instance of government becoming Big Brother. While I certainly agree that we have a serious problem with fraudulent businesses in this country, and agree we have a need to address this problem, I do not see the proposed Business Opportunity Rule as a viable solution. I do believe the FTC would do well to invite business owners to participate in creating a proper course of action to address this problem that will not create an unnessecary burden on the business owners of our nation.
