I greatly appreciate the FTC's desire to protect the consumer; however, I also vehemently oppose this particular proposal. I started my business with PL in 2003 and have greatly enjoyed the financial as well as intangible benefits (friendships, personal growth, etc.) it has offered. Without the income from PL, our family would not enjoy many of the extras that income provides. For example, our daughter had the opportunity to represent the US in Europe as part of the People to People Student Ambassador program last summer. It was the PL income that paid for that enriching opportunity. She has grown as a result of that trip in ways that would never have happened without PL. She is a more globally aware young woman and it is PL that has provided the income to support her growth. PL is also seeding the college education fund that she deserves. I was so fortunate to be able to start my PL when I was ready, without having to endure a waiting period. PL has always delivered what they promised to me and to my Unit of consultants. There has never been a cost involved in starting this business - therefore, no financial risk to the new consultant. My experience with PL consultants across the country is that they are honest, ethical and uphold the values and culture of the company. All of our trainings are open to the public so that all have the opportunity to learn about the business and to decide whether it is for them. I have never seen anyone portrait anything beyond exactly what we offer. If someone decides it is not for them, they leave the business enriched financially as well as with the friendships that continue after they leave the business. I have no doubt that you will hear many positive stories from PL consultants about their experience with our company. I believe that the regulation you propose will prohibit many from making a decision that could very well change their lives for the best. As I understand it, what is being proposed will not only hurt the companies involved in direct sales, it will greatly harm the very consumer you are trying to protect. Please do not pass this proposal.
