Federal Trade Commision, My name is Melaine Dawson. I have been an Independant Consultant with PartyLite Gifts now for 10 and a half years. I want to share with you just how much this business opportunity has changed my families quality of life not only through the personal growth as a leader for me, but to and including our families income. I am solely depended upon, and responsible for 1/2 of my families income every week. Before PartyLite, I worked in the corporate job force as a Teacher of Early childhood development and was paying over 1/2 of my wages per week for someone else to raise my children through day care. I have come to honor the opportunity that PartyLite has allowed me to get started with no cash investment, along with an unlimited income that I can work hard to acheive through the in home work that I do. As my children have grown, they too now benefit from the luxury of having their mother in the home working, as I now provide child care for my grandson of 19 months while his mother works. As a mother of 3 children, it has certainly been one of lifes biggest rewards to my husband & I knowing that there was always one parent in the home at all times. This letter comes to you in an attempt that would ask you to please revise or modify the current proposed regulation (FTC Business Opportunity Rule # R511993). I support & agree with a protection of the consumers from scamulous business opportunities, however, I feel that the 7 day waiting period casts "legitimate" direct sellers in a negative light. I have always taken pride in the fact that I get to work with people, growing their incomes and their personal strengths. This 7 day waiting period will create my skills to be used for record keeping, which will in turn take my time away from those things which are most important in supporting someones elses dreams & goals of how to best earn a consistent income for their family. When offered this business opportunity 10 & 1/2 years ago, I can personally attest that had I been made to wait out a 7 day period in which I could get started, I would have missed this opportunity that PartyLite has provivded me with. People don't always believe that they have what it takes to become successful in a home based business atmosphere, I was certainly one of them, and I would have backed out of my decision to get started had I not had the opportunity to start the very next day that I was offered this business. As per proposed on 10 references needed to obtain, I have personally taken pride in the fact that PartyLite has always respected & maintained the utmost privacy regulations for all of its consultants and again feel that if this law is passed, it will steele my time spent with people to help them better themselves, and cast me into a record keeping numbers game that I would have to track. Tracking anything can be so time consuming, along with my name & phone number being passed around everywhere which will no longer be protecting my rights to privacy. In summary: I appreciate the FTC goals in supporting consumers, but I strongly disagree with the proposed regulations and would please ask you to consider & modify this rule. As is, this rule will have a very negative impact on so many legitimate businesses like PartyLite who has always stood for the highest ethics and morals in a business, and will also come to hurt our economy all over the United States. After all, every person who starts in a ligitimate business opportunity, reaches more more people than just one person could ever meet! And we change lives every day that we can continue to offer someone the chance to start making an income the very next day! Thank you, Melaine Dawson Indepentant Consultant with PartyLite(TM)
