To whom it may concern: I am writing concerning the proposed "Business Opportunity Rule R511993". I am opposed to the new rule. The waiting period and disclosure of lawsuits seems excessive. I am curious as to what prompted this type of rule to be proposed in the first place. I have been involved in Amway, and am currently associated with both Synergy Worldwide and Xango. All have been positive experiences for me even though my earnings have not been substantial. There are no guarantees that one will make money in them just as there are no guarantees that one will succeed in any business venture or job. It takes hard work, practice, and a willingness to take rejection. I feel that additional regulation of direct selling business is unnecessary. My experience has been that those who are promoting business opportunities are telling what can be made by someone willing to work hard. At most I would recommend a certain number of days, for example three, as when buying a car, that one could receive their money back if they changed their mind. A lot of business opportunities already have a system in place for those who are dissatisfied. To single out direct selling seems to be interfering more than is necessary in free enterprise. There are a lot of honest, hard working people, whose dreams and income would be adversely affected. Sincerely, Jerry Medlar
