Dear FTC, Allow me to tell you about myself, I have been with PartyLite for 11 years and PartyLite is my Family's main source of income. I am a single mom with 2 teen age girls and take pride in supporting my kids on my own with a fabulous business opportunity like PartyLite. I am very proud of the positive reputation PartyLite has, and I take pride in the fact that I have the ability to offer someone income that is unlimited, to give people choices. I feel your proposal will have a very negative impact on consumers and on individuals who are working with legitimate companies. I feel it is exciting that I can say to someone, you can start your business today and have income next week. For someone who is without income and desperately looking to support themselves or a family a 7 day waiting period can be a matter of not paying bills or having food on the table. It is also taking away personal choices. Should Consumers be protected, absolutely, but consumers have the responsibility to research a company and get the information and if they are dealing with companies directly linked with the DSA of reputable standing those consultants will offer information, the consumer will not have to go searching. I will tell you that every person I offer the PartyLite business Opportunity to gets all the information that I have, plus they are invited to attend meetings, attend shows, and participate in 3 way calls for more information. Many of our new consultants are hostesses who know the company inside and out, and when they timing is right in their life some want to start immediately, so it is not fair to say to them sorry, you have to wait a week. I feel that in corporate america, if you are getting a regular 8-5 job, you can be hired on the spot and you can be scammed. Direct sales is a very real business opportunity that provides limitless opportunities, usually more than corporate america. If you were to put this proposal into place for regular employers the unemployment rate would sky rocket and the economy would be a mess. I would like to suggest that instead of penalizing legitimate opportunities and harming consumers, there are other ways to stop scammers. That this proposal may catch a few unethical companies but it will have a much larger impact on companies who have very high standards and ethical business practices. When it comes to references as you are suggesting peoples names and numbers be given out, I feel this will also negatively impact anyone who is in business or looking to start a business. This day in age privacy is very important, and though I am more than willing to give anyone references on PartyLite, I would not want my information available to everyone. Because then you will be dealing with people using that information for unethical practices wether it be telemarketing or non-business use. Companies who are directly affiliated with the DSA will have information readily available, and consultants who are in business with these companies will always offer people opportunities for more information before starting. Thank you for watching out for the consumer, and figuring out the best way to solve this issue. Please reconsider the policy and the true impact of it. Sincerely Andrea Seeley
