Dear Federal Trade Commission Member, I am writing to you regarding your proposed regulations for those of us in the direct selling business. I am a PartyLite Leader and have been working in this business for 7 1/2 years. In that time, I have been able to build an income that allows me to provide for my family by paying electric, gas, internet, phone, grocery, clothing, and general household bills. I currently pay out anywhere between $500-800 per month. My PartyLite income allows me to do this with ease and no stress. The second thing that my PartyLite income has allowed me to do is teach part-time when my daughter was born 3 years ago. My family could not and still can't just live off of my husband's income. However, my PartyLite income allowed me to stay home with my child when she needed me most while still bringing in a good income working around my husband's schedule and not paying daycare. In addition, I have brought many people into this business, who have also been able to use this opportunity to support themselves and their families. The regulations you are planning would make it incredibly difficult to introduce anyone to this opportunity. One of the best things about this business is that anyone can start this business and be earning money within a timeframe of two weeks. Most people join PartyLite wanting and often needing to earn money right away, and your proposal would make them wait even longer. In addition, I cannot see myself sharing private information about other PartyLite Consultants and I certainly not want my private information shared without my consent. Overall this law casts legitimate direct sellers in a negative light, creates record keeping and administrative challenges, and most importantly penalizes people from starting their businesses when they're ready. Please reconsider your proposals to regulate legitimate, professional direct sellers like me. You will only end up impacting thousands upon thousands' incomes, futures and families' futures. The commision definitely needs to do more research on this matter to see all the people this law can affect. Respectfully Yours, Amy Shields Unit Leader, PartyLite Gifts, Inc.
