To whom it may concern, I wish to comment on FTC wanting to put restricitions on the Direct Selling businesses. Having to wait 7 days to start your business from the time it was offered would have a big impact on not only the consultants who are sponsoring, but on those being sponsored. If I had had to wait, I probably would have talked myself out of it. I have been doing Partylite for 7 years now and love it. It has given me the opportunity to travel, make friends and earn a good income that I can use to help my daughter pay for her dance classes as well as many other household needs like groceries.. Waiting would have allowed my uncertainty and fears to take hold and I wouldnt have started which would have prevented me from realizing many of my dreams. Going into business for yourself can be a little intimidating, but it has been my experience that it is better to jump right in and give it a try. I have sponsored several people over the years who have gone ahead and tried the business and some stay and some don't. The best part is that there is no risk in that they pay nothing to start so they have nothing to lose. Even for those companied that do have a small start up cost, they usually offer some type of buy back of their kits. Most people I know don't take advantage of that because they are getting product they already love in there and it is already at a discounted price so it is a win/win situation anyway. The only ones really taking on the risk are the companies who are selling or giving these kits to the new consultant hoping they don't just take the kit and then quit without doing any sales. Direct Sales gives the ability to the average person to live the American dream of owning their own business without having to shell out millions of dollars for a franchise and take on the risk and possibility of losing everything. It is a way to pull yourself up and be your own boss. It has allowed me to be a stay at home mom for my kids and for my husband to bond with the kids those few hours I am out at night a couple of nights per week. Dont take away this wonderful vehicle by making it harder to help others to find this dream too. One of the best parts about it is its ease of entry. Dont complicate it. For some consultants, the rules you are trying to impose will absolutely be impossible. I know someone from Montana that couldn't come up very many people in the area that are consultants because the area is so desolate. It also violates privacy laws to have people giving strangers my personal information. I know I wouldn't want my name given to people I dont know. In short, while I understand you are trying to protect the public from scams, as long as the company is a member of the direct selling association, they have done the work in that area already for you, by not inviting those companies to be members. Thanks for listening to my side of things. It would truly be a shame if this were to pass. I would be very happy to add more at your request. Sincerely, Leonor Orlicki
