Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing this letter because I am concerned about the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I believe that in its presented form, it could prevent me from continuing as an independent Cognigen Agent and destroy my small business. I have been a Cognigen Agent for over 4 years now and have not paid one red cent to become a distributor. I have a FREE website furnished by the company and I am NOT required to buy anything in order to qualify for commissions. The same deal is offered to new Agents today. I started out by becoming an Agent for FREE for first 6 months, ONLY buying products and services that would SAVE my family money. We have SAVED hundreds of dollars each year on lower cost, quality services. In our case it was on LD telephone service and low-cost dial up internet service. Admittedly most Cognigen Agents join for free, do nothing to market, buy nothing, earn nothing - and quit. BUT they also do NOT lose any money by becoming an Agent. We earn a small residual commission from satisfied customers who are also SAVING money just by being customers with some of the services. We just bought unlimited local and LD (U.S. & Canada) telephone service from our own Cognigen website for $199 a year. (That is about $17 a month) Qwest was charging us $22 + per month AND we had to pay extra for our in-state and LD calls. PLUS we will earn a one-time $60 commission on our own $199 sale to ourselves! I am all for the FTC going after pyramid/ponzi scammers, cheaters, and liars. I have been scammed myself so many times I can't count anymore. But please keep in mind that there are a few honest, ethical opportunities available, such as Cognigen. The honest, ethical opportunities should not be penalized unnecessarily for the unethical, dishonest actions of other greedy scum bags. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or feedback that may help you. I do appreciate the work that the AGs and FTC are performing to help cleanup the industry. I can see that the task is truly overwhelming. V/R Howard Dalton -
