I am writing to express strong opposition to the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. If this rule were implemented it would make it very difficult for me to operate my business as a Shaklee Independent Distributor. I am retired from professional ministry as a pastor and use the small income from my Shaklee business to supplement a modest pension. I live in rural America. The population in Lucas County, Iowa is less than 8000. I can only imagine the negative impact on my business if I were forced to disclose the names of my customers and report on their level of satisfaction. Why, anyone who wanted to know about someone else would just have to indicate they wanted to be a customer/distributor with me and I would have to provide that potential customer with the names of valued customers. That’s just wrong. Sir, Madam, I’ve spent a lifetime maintaining my integrity re: keeping personal confidences. Now you are going to require me to compromise my character. That’s not right. Please abandon pursuit of this rule R511993. I understand, applaud and support your efforts and energies to protect the public. But this rule, while it may be helpful to some, holds the promise of being harmful to far more. Thank you for your consideration.
