I am greatly concerned about the proposed FTC requirements for those of us in direct sales. We have so enjoyed being able to participate in the free-enterprise system by owning a small business, in my case quite small! It's nice to feel that in the age of giant corporations we can have a family-owned, family-oriented business that emphasizes real people working with other real people. These new regulations would make that impossible. People like me - the ones I care to have join me as fellow distributors of great products not available in stores - would be scared away by hearing all the negatives that might have occurred nearby. Further, they would be quite shocked that in order to talk to anyone else about joining them in their business, they would have to share their list of customers. Who in any other business has to disclose customers? Do the big corporations? I'm sorry that some have indulged in bad business practices, as I assume they must have or these regulations would not have been drafted. But why make the millions of innocent paricipants in our free-enterprise system have to suffer? It goes against the grain of justice, and it also reduces trade. Since I believe that trade is the basis of democracy, I see this as a step in exactly the wrong direction. Please don't proceed with this measure.
