As a health educator and parent, I am well aware of the alcohol industry's advertising practices aimed at young people, despite their claims to the contrary. In lieu of more stringent, mandated prohibitions on alcohol advertising placement, I am in support of compelling alcohol advertisers to comply with extising voluntary advertising placement provisions, including providing information relative to their sales and marketing expenditures. I also support the FTC's proposal to compel alcohol marketers to provide the Commission with information relative to the status of third-party review of complaints regarding compliance with voluntary advertising codes. Mandating these reports are the minimum level of reporting for which alcohol marketers should be held accountable to document their compliance with the law regarding their alcohol marketing practices seen by underage consumers.
