In a program put on at Payson High School and Rim Country Middle School, 75% or more believed their high school peers drank alcohol (the percentage was significantly less at the middle school level). That is very disconcerting and demonstrates the problem of alcohol in our rural town where kids (and their parents) often believe the only way to have fun is to drink/go to the bars. In fact, several large events in our town use alcohol as a sort of social lubricant and main advertising draw everything from Chamber and civic club mixers to the World s Oldest Continuous Rodeo . I support the FTC in cracking down on alcohol advertising on TV, in magazines, on the internet and at local levels. Our kids are watching and are greatly affected. A quick surf of MySpace and you ll see that our kids use alcohol advertisements on their sites to broadcast their bad behavior and to organize illegal, underage drinking parties. Advertising for alcohol should be just as strict as tobacco advertising. Let s take the example of media revealing dangerous truths about tobacco and apply those same philosophies to the advertising of alcohol& after all, alcohol kills more teens that all other drugs combined including tobacco! </body> </HTML>
