Re: Food Marketing to Kids Workshop, Project No. PO34519. This is a request to particpate in the workshop, and to present comments on behalf of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA). Founded in 1917, AAAA is the national trade association representing the American advertising agency business. The association has over 450 members, comprised of both large multi-national agencies and small and mid-sized agencies who maintain over 1,600 offices throughout the country. Together, AAAA member advertising agencies account for nearly 80 percent of all national, regional and local advertising placed by agencies in newspapers, magazines, radio and television in the United States. AAAA is dedicated to the preservation of a robust free market in the communication of commercial and noncommercial ideas. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the advertising industry's policies, principles and practices in the area of marketing to children. We further would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the advertising industry's framework and system for self-regulation, and to recount the industry's efficacy and success in self- regulation. Finally, we would like the opportunity to discuss the important role that advertising agencies play in the marketing and advertising process, and the mechanisms that agencies utilize to market products, especially to children, in a responsible way. Our representative will be either: Mr. Richard F. O'Brien - Executive Vice President and Director of Government Relations - American Association of Advertising Agencies - or Mr. Adonis Hoffman - Senior Vice President and Counsel - AAAA - - Thank you
