I have had a creditor after me for the past four years for a bill that was not mine to pay. After signing all of the appropriate documents with the apartment manager to relieve myself of all liabilities, I moved out of my apartment and left my ex- boyfriend there. Soon thereafter, he was evicted. That is when the bill collector's started calling. They told me that I was married and had changed my last name (which was not true, according to the State of Texas) and then told me that the papers that I signed were not the correct papers (even though I had copies made.) When I contacted the credit reporting agencies, they checked with the creditor and verified their information, even though it was not correct! The credit agencies are not even reporting the correct information!
