Comments:I think it is a very bad idea to allow the sliding scale rule to become permanent. Gathering any sort of information from children using the Internet should be strictly controlled and curtailed, whether for in-house or third-party use. Allowing an e-mail message to act as parental permission is unwise and insufficient. A paper form with ink signature of the parent should be required, with a later report back to the parent of how and with whom their child's information has been shared.
