Comments:
Dear FTC: I am in favor of eliminating the sliding scale approach to obtaining parental consent to be able to receive personal information about children ages 13 and under. I believe this approach to providing parental consent (allowing an e-mail sent from a parent's e-mail address to constitute parental consent) is insufficient to guarantee the protection and safety of children over the internet. It is too easy for someone other than a parent to send an e-mail from the parent's e-mail address "granting consent" (although this would not be legitimate parental consent because it would not have been granted by the parent). Please overturn this approach to allowing this method to serve as provision of parental consent in favor of providing better protection for children online. I grow increasingly dismayed at the lack of protection that we provide for our children in this country (whether physical, emotional, moral, etc.) and encourage you to err on the side of additional protection for our children rather than providing greater convenience for online companies. Respectfully, Christina Dukes
