Detroit Automobile Dealers Association D9189 6/03/97 Horizontal Restraints New Car Sales

Detroit Automobile Dealers Association

The 11 remaining dealerships in the complaint against the Detroit Automobile Dealers Association agreed to settle allegations that they conspired to limit competition in the sale of new cars by closing dealerships on Saturdays and most week nights. The 1995 Commission order resulted from charges that the auto dealers had violated federal antitrust laws by conspiring to limit their hours of operation. This consent order requires the remaining 11 dealerships to be bound by the terms and provisions of the 1995 order and shortens the duration of the affirmative hours requirement for all dealers. The order prohibits all of the respondents from conspiring in any way to fix hours of operations.
