Subject:  Microsoft - Above the Law?

As I read the recent consent decree with Microsoft, one question stands out.

Why is this company repeatedly allowed to violate the laws and regulations of this country, and then allowed to get off with no significant penalties?

They willfully trample the privacy of Americans.  They have repeatedly lied about their actions.  They have  destroyed the jobs of competitive companies.  They have shown contempt for the laws of this country.   They have repeatedly violated the agreements they made in the past.

Their only penalty for these actions have only been "Consent Decrees". The president speaks of  "Corporate Integrity",  but Microsoft gets a free pass for their crimes.

To me,  the only difference between Microsoft and World Com is that Microsoft was able kill off their competition.

Thank you for your time.
