FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Jackson Products, Inc.--P894219 Jackson Products,
Inc. August 11, 1997 Office of the Secretary Re: Comments of Jackson Products, Inc. Dear Sir / Madam: Jackson Products, Inc. hereby responds to the Federal Trade Commission's request for comments on its proposed "Guides for the Use of U.S. Origin Claims." Jackson Products, Inc. manufacturers a significant number of safety products including but not limited to orange channelizer barrels, cones and barricades for construction sites, reflective glass beads for multiple safety applications, welding helmets (electronic auto-darkening or conventional filter models), welding goggles and welding accessory items. Our company employees over 600 people in plants located in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Texas and Canada. Though we do import some products (clearly identified as to country of origin) for resale in the U.S., the majority of our products are domestically produced and proudly display the "Made in U.S.A." statement. As a manufacturer of high quality "Made in U.S.A." products, Jackson Products, Inc. Employees and Management strongly oppose the Commission's proposal to weaken the standard for "Made in U.S.A. claims from "all or virtually all" U.S. content to "substantially all" U.S. content. We firmly believe that any compromise in the standard will lead to consumer deception and ultimately weaken the "Made in U.S.A." statement - and the consumer trust American companies have spent literally decades building. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, D.G. Oltijenbruns |
