I wish to vice my opposition to a change in the current labeling system being considered by your agency. I believe if a global economy can ever exist all participating countries must "play" by the same rules. The United States is at a disadvantage already due to labor laws, wages etc... If this proposal goes through your agency will be contibuting to the problem not solving it. I base this on the fact that you would be clouding the consumers choice to buy a made in U.S.A. item(s). Currently if a consumer wishes to pay more for an item marked made in U.S.A. he or she may do so with the knowledge he is supporting the United States workforce. If the change is made your agency is proposing this would no longer be. I am not someone who is an isolationist; to the contrary I like the idea of free trade. As stated above however only if the rules are the same for everyone. Respectfully JA Sluckis |
