FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Larry Pedee--P894219 Larry Pedee August 6, 1997 Ms: Beth Grossman Dear Ms: Beth Grossman, I read with great interest an article which concerns a change in the meaning of "Made in the USA". This article appeared in an insignificant township newspaper. The Key Shoppers News, P.O. Box 35 Swanton, OH 43558. It could be, I did not watch the News Broadcast close enough. I rarely miss the news which concerns our Nations well being. I do wish this subject would have been given more open publicity on CBS 1160 Minutes or ABC or NBC. The article ask that the Federal Trade Commission was interested in what the public comments might be. I feel sure you would of received many, many comments. To change the meaning of "Made in the USA" is very Deceitful on the part of the person who might have suggested the change. I cannot condone parts being made by slaves from another nation and then assembled here and be labled, "Made in the USA. To me, this is as bad as an American citizen burning our nations flag in Public and the law turns its head the other way. My comment is. --As of today. Look at the temporary employees that United Parcel Service has, who are not making enough to exist on. Our dear Politicians have cut into the Welfare Rolls. Manufactures are moving out of this country for cheeper labor cost. Are these concerns paying their fare share of taxes out of monies made outside of our Country? With our Politicians giving tax abatements, people on minimum wage and possibly two making the salary one person use to make. We need every job available. With many low income families living within the inner city and the more prosperous moving to a new home outside of the city limits. Who is to pick up the tab for the constant salary increases for the school's teachers? Here in Toledo alone, there is only one large employer and that being the Chrysler Corporation with the Jeep plant. Champion Spark Plug has closed. Toledo Scale has moved somewhere. The Bently Corp. quit business a few years ago. Libby Owens Ford Glass has down sized quite abit. Quite a number of years ago, I gave up 4 ½ years of my life to help fight a war, thinking I would be helping the younger generation. I feel very, very hurt to see how this country is being torn apart and given away, the onslaught of illegale immigrants from Mexico and the lowering of the standard of living for many of our own citizens. In ending, I am very opposed to any changes, no matter how slight. Made in the USA should mean that only and not doctored to mean something else. Thank you, Larry PedeeLarry Pedee |
