FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Patricia W. Fusco--P894219 Patricia W. Fusco Office of the Secretary To the members of the Federal Trade Commission: I am writing to oppose your proposed changes to the current "Made in USA" standard. The current standard requires that "all or virtually all" parts and labor must originate in the United States. Your proposal would allow a manufacturer to use the "Made in USA" label even if as little as 75 % of its manufacturing costs are incurred in the United States. Your proposed guidelines actually allow some products to be labeled as "Made in the USA" even though they are made entirely of foreign parts and by foreign labor. Allowing these changes would amount to fraud, in my opinion. I look for the "Made in USA" label when I shop, as do many Americans. We do this to help the economy of our country and to help keep our fellow countrymen employed. In some parts of our country there are already a large number of people who are either unemployed or collecting welfare. I believe that your proposal would cause more people to lose their jobs and join the ranks of those unemployed or welfare recipients as companies move more and more of their operations overseas. The American economy cannot afford to lose any more good American jobs. I urge you to drop your proposal and allow the "Made in USA" to mean what it says, made in America, by Americans. Sincerely, Patricia W. FuscoPatricia W. Fusco |
