FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning William B. Chaffee--P894219

July 29,1997

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my views on the proposed changes in the made in the USA regulations. I am a strong believer in the USA labels, and try to purchase products that are made in the USA. I am a Union member and feel that the quality and pride that are put into producing union products, should not be confused with products made in other countries. I recently read an article that was telling about a USA governed country and they were using the made in USA label. The people who were employed making these products were under paid and didn't have good working conditions. This certainly is not what I think of when I see the Union Label. We should be proud of the workmanship of our Union members and continue to hold it in high regard. We already have enough products coming into our country, we need to increase the amount of USA made products. We do not need to do it in this way. How will we know what the quality of workmanship will be? Please do not let the companies have their way in this matter. We continue to want truth in our market place.

We have already seen this practice in the big car manufactures. Thinking your buying a car that was made in the USA and then finding out parts of it were made in other countries. This practice needs to be stopped.

Thanks for listening to my opinions. Just a small voice in the crowd.

Sincerely Yours,

William B. Chaffee
