FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning L. Jeanette Hencken--P894219 L. Jeanette Hencken Federal Trade Commission To Whom It May Concern: As a taxpayer and voter in the USA, I believe that I have an obligation to let you know how I feel about the proposed changes in the standard "Made in the USA". I personally prefer to buy goods with the "Made in the USA label on them. I prefer this because I believe that there is a much smaller chance that what I am buying would have been made in a sweat shop, a forced labor camp or by children if this label is on the product. Maybe I am naive in this belief but without overseeing the production of each product I purchase, this is the only way I can appease my conscience. I also have strong objections to polluting the environment just to pay a few dollars less on a garment I purchase. The cost of most products is the same, where ever they are produced if you include the cost of human and environmental health. How anyone can buy goods knowing that someone may be risking their own life in unsafe, unhealthy working conditions, just to save a few dollars, is beyond my understanding. If the standard for "Made in the USA is changed it will mean that almost all of the cost of producing goods can be born outside the USA. I need to know that when I buy a garment that has the "Made in the USA" label that it is truly produced in the USA! There are too many important factors riding on this label. Safe working conditions, clean air, clean drinking water, being paid a decent wage, these things are a given to myself and all other Americans. I think that these are the basic rights of all human beings and should not be abused. I hope you understand my concerns about the changes you are proposing and how important this issue is to me. Sincerely, L. Jeanette HenckenL. Jeanette Hencken |
