FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Edmund P. Urquiza--P894219 Edmund P. Urquiza June 25, 1997 Federal Trade Commission Dear Secretary: This letter is intended for your review in relation to the issue of: MADE IN THE U.S.A. I suggest that the FTC utilize a simple system of grading which would allowing the statement to be legitimately presented by US manufacturers without misrepresentation. The method would run as follows: If a US manufacturer meets a 51% standard set by your agency then they may use the statement but only in the colors of black or white. In this version no part of the logo area may contain other colors. If the item attains a rating of 75% then the color choices would be blue or red. Again, in this version no part of the logo area may contain other colors. If the item is proven by your agency as attaining a rating of 100% "made in the USA" then the company becomes authorized to print the logo in RED WHITE AND BLUE. This version may utilize any color combination for the logo area. The FTC would retain the discretion to create an official logo for all MADE IN THE U.S.A. products. The above listed method allows for the pride of being American made to be presented honestly while retaining the free enterprise spirit our country enjoys. Sincerely, Edmund P. UrquizaEdmund P.
