FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Laura R. Yeomans--P894219 July 15, 1997 Made in USA Policy Comment Dear Federal Trade Commission: I am writing to urge you to discard your proposed plan to modify the definition of "Made in USA." The "Made in USA" suggests that parts and labor are American. I strongly disagree with your proposal to allow only 75% of parts and labor to qualify as "Made in USA." My family and I try to buy made in the USA products because we don't want to profit from corporations that hire children and laborers at very cheap rates in foreign countries. By changing the label you are actually increasing deception in the marketplace, something I believe your agency usually trys to eliminate. I believe that only companies that are using U. S. workers and parts made in the United States should have the right to use that label. I understand that many companies want to use the "Made in USA" label. They simply need to meet the standard of having parts and labor all or virtually all made here. Sincerely, Laura R. YeomansLaura R. Yeomans USA.SAM |
