SUBJECT: "Made in USA!” labeling standards.=20
[Message]
Mr. President
I am opposed to the Federal Trade Proposal to dumb down
the standards for use of the “Made in USA!” label.
I have written the following letter to the FTC and I hope I=20
have your support:=20
Re:"Made in USA Policy Comment," FTC File No. P894219
Dear Secretary
Should the standard change? Yes, the standard needs to be=20
100% to qualify for the label. Made in USA, needs to mean just=20
that! See the dictionary. The label should not be: "Made in=20
USA -- Almost." That=92s what a downgrade to 75% would mean.=20
It is obvious that the label "Made in USA" has a financial=20
advantage. Otherwise there is no reason to attempt lower=20
standards, that would allow more products can carry the label.=20
This is another example of--91If you cannot meet the=20
standards, lower the standards.=92=20
The answer to your dilemma is really a very simple question.=20
Was the product made in the USA? If the answer is yes, it can=20
carry the label. If the answer is no, then it cannot carry the=20
label. If the proponents of lower standards want to label=20
their products with "Made in USA," all they have to do, is=20
make it in the USA. It=92s not really complicated. On the=20
question of "Assembled in the USA": 1. It should be 100%=20
assembled here. 2. The label needs to specify where the=20
materials came from. 3. All type needs to be the same size.=20
Not "ASSEMBLED IN USA -- of PARTS FROM XYZ COUNTRY." Thank=20
You, Bob Wright=20
