FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Clement R. Coggin--P894219 11 May 1997 Federal Trade Commission Dear Sir, or Madam: I oppose the ridiculous, unheard of proposal to permit the use of the Made in U.S.A. label when all of the product is not actually made in this country. First of all, it puts the government on the side of cheating by legalizing a lie! Secondly, if a citizen cannot believe his/her government on one thing, how can anything the government says, or does, be believed? Thirdly, it has the strong appearance of a quid pro quo for foreign contributions to political campaigns. Also, if content is apportioned to foreign versus domestic content, it should be perfectly clear whether the apportionment is by value/price, weight, volume or labor. Respectfully, Clement R.
