FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Faye H. Raper--P894219 May 7, 1997 USA Policy Comment I protest the proposal by the Federal Trade Commission to allow manufacturers to tag merchandise Made in USA when certain parts are made in a foreign country. The quality of foreign made merchandise is inferior and that includes the whole or part of the whole. In August 1996 I purchased SAS walking shoes. I knew SAS were made in the USA. WRONG! In March 1997 the sole on one shoe was coming loose at the heel and stitching was breaking. I took them back to the store and was told that under the tongue of the shoe it says Made in Indonesia and Packaged in San Antonio. This April, I purchased an umbrella, and when I removed the packaging, the fabric was torn loose from one of the ribs. MADE IN CHINA! These are only two samples of poor quality. I am positive many, many citizens of our country could give you similar data on inferior products. After my experiences with their products, I avoid, if at all possible, anything made in any Asian country. Faye H. RaperFaye H. Raper |
