FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Tom Mason--P894219

Made in USA Policy Comment:

I disagree with this proposed change of the definition of "Made in USA" for the following two reasons:

1)We are losing enough U.S. manufacturing jobs without giving U.S. manufacturers more incentive to reduce the U.S. contents of our goods. The “Made in USA” label is important enough as a marketing tool that it may deter U.S. manufacturers from moving over seas. The proposed changes to the “Made in USA” definition will allow companies to move 25% of their production over seas and STILL benefit from the “Made in USA” label. This will remove one more reason for U.S. manufacturers to remain in the U.S.

2)Consumers are already skeptical of the “Made in USA” label. Substantially reducing the U.S. made content in items with this label will increase skepticism to the point where a consumer may decide it just doesn’t matter anymore.
