FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Philip E. Wheatley--P894219 May 7, 1997 Federal Trade Commission RE: Made in the USA Policy Comment Members of the Federal Trade Commission: I am a citizen of the USA, a consumer, veteran of the armed services, taxpayer, and have lived 69 years without committing a felony. I hold a BA in business and finance and am a graduate of the School of Banking, University of Wisconsin and have taken many additional courses in finance and the humanities. Does the FTC have a Mission Statement? If not one should be developed. If one exists I would like a copy and to see it published. Made in USA label should reflect just what it says. The labels found in products which give the source of origin - i.e. China, India etc. - should be an accurate designation of the origin of the product. Any attempt to dilute the definition of Made in the USA is a fraud upon the citizens of The United States of America, a failure of the FTC to represent and protect the citizenry from misrepresentations. If the FTC staff and personnel cannot handle the responsibilities, then they should be replaced. I have been under the impression for years that it is the duty of the FTC to represent the interests of the citizenry, not only with respect to imported goods but also to domestic products ranging from finance disclosures and enforcement to production and marketing of products in the United States. Character is the strength of a nation. National disgraces and the fall of governments is often found to have been the result of a lack of character among its leaders and citizens. e plurbus unum, Philip E. WheatleyPhilip E. Wheatley |
