Federal Trade Commission Received Documents Jul 31 1995 B18354900302 Secretary July 21, 1995 Federal Trade Commission Office of the Secretary "Made in the USA" 6th Street and Pennsylvania Ave., NW Washington, DC 20580 Dear Sir or Madam, I am responding to an article in the July 14 issue of USA today regarding made in America labels and what it really means. As a consumer and an American I do indeed look at labels that say where a product is made. I always try to buy "made in USA" goods whenever possible. The reasons would be obvious in that given the intense competition in the world today for all consumer goods it gives those who care about our economy and the employment situation in this country a chance to keep our dollars here. I suggest setting a certain percentage as the determining factor if a product is made in the US, otherwise a consumer has no idea where a product is made. It certainly offers no hardship on the company that finishes the product as they certainly know where the materials etc come from. If your guidelines state that if a certain percentage is made in the USA than they may place that label on it. If not then the country that has supplied the majority materials or has actually made the finished product must put their label on the product. Sincerely, Michael V.
