Federal Trade Commission Received Documents July 18, 1995 B18354900219 July, 17, 1995 Federal Trade Commission Office Of The Secretary "Made In The U.S.A." 6th. Street and Penn. Ave., Washington, D.C. 20580 Dear Sirs: I am writing about the article in the U.S.A. Today. "Made in the U.S.A." means exactly that! If the sole is made in China, it should say so. I recently bought a flower with changing color lights for a 93 year old lady in a nursing home. The clerk had told me it was made in the U.S.A. When I opened the box at home, inside it said, Made in Taiwan. I took it back and was told that it was put together in the U.S.A. with components made in Taiwan. I highly resent this! I do not trust electrical products made in Taiwan. Also, while on the subject, I resent winter coats I've seen "Made in Russia" or Ukraine, where Kiev is the Capitol and the Chernobyl nuclear incident hit so close to home. Students in our Schools came home the night before it was announced on T.V. in this Country, and they had been over there. A Country that was going to bury us, leaves me suspicious of anything they try to sell us. How do we know it's safe? What is our protection against such items? Is there anyway we can find out if the coats are safe? We are retired and my husband fought in WWII. We sometimes wonder, for what? We have no rights as consumers anymore. The greed in this country as well as others is horrible to see. Morals, do not exist anymore. We don't know what we buy is legal or not and whether safe to bring home. Very truly yours, George H. Wright and Martha M. Wright 110 Sagamore Street, Apt. E Glens Falls,, New York 12801
