Federal Trade Commission Documents Received Apr. 26, 1996 P894219 B18354900148 Peter S. Vaughan III 1035 1/2 Ninth Avenue Huntington, West Virginia 25701 304-523-4114 Chairman Robert Pitofsky Federal Trade Commission Sixth Street & Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D. C. 20580 Dear Mr. Chairman, The claim Made in America can only be meaningful if a product, making such a claim, is put together in the United States using U.S. made parts! The United States should not stop the importation of foreign goods. However imported products must be treated here as our products are treated over there. As for price influencing purchasing decisions, of course it will. If an imported product is produced using slave wage labor, captive child labor, practices that destroy the environment, etc. or they are dumped on the U.S. market, they can easily take over a market. When over 50% of a market is taken over the price goes right back up. Any larger share and the prices spiral even higher. Check the labels and price tags of the shirts in a store near you. All products sold in the United States must have full open disclosure. Every tag should list the country of manufacture and the source of its contents. Please give us the ability to choose for our selves. Make the claim Made in America legitimate. Sincerely, Peter S. Vaughan III
