The FTC is accepting public comments on the proposed application until January 22, 2002. Following the appropriate public comment periods, the Commission has approved four applications by America Online/Time Warner, Inc. (AOLTW) regarding non-affiliated Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the indicated cable divisions and the agreements executed by each. They are: 1) New York Connect (in the New York City cable division); 2) Internet Junction (in the Tampa Bay and Central Florida cable divisions); 3) Inter.net (in all Time Warner cable divisions); and 4) STIC.NET (in the San Antonio, Houston, and Austin, Texas cable divisions). AOLTW's applications were submitted pursuant to Paragraph II.A.2 of the decision and order finalized by the Commission on April 17, 2001 concerning AOL's acquisition of Time Warner, Inc.
The Commission vote to approve the transactions was 4-0, with Chairman Timothy J. Muris recused. The Commission has voted to authorize staff to file an amended complaint in FTC v. Icon America. The original complaint in this alleged credit card protection fraud matter was announced by the FTC on October 18, 2001, as part of "Operation Ditch the Pitch." Through the amended complaint, the FTC names 9066-3451 Quebec Inc. d/b/a Sierra Enterprises as an additional corporate defendant in the matter. The Commission vote authorizing staff to file the amended complaint was 5-0.
