Do Not Call Registrations Top 12.5 Million

For Release

Consumers continue to add their telephone numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry at a vigorous pace, favoring online registrations to telephone registrations 88 percent to12 percent. As of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, 15.3 million telephone numbers had been logged into the registry.

Despite the high volume of successful registrations, the Federal Trade Commission is offering some tips for consumers experiencing glitches in the registration process:

• If you can’t confirm your registration by clicking on the confirmation link in the e-mail from Register@donotcall.gov, use the "cut" and "paste" functions to insert the link in the e-mail into the "Address" line on your Web browser. Cut and paste the entire link; it won’t work if you retype it. The problem may be the result of using the older browsers of certain Internet Service Providers.

  • If you click on the link in the confirmation e-mail and receive a page that says “REGISTRATION INCOMPLETE,” return to your confirmation e-mail, maximize it so that it covers the entire screen, and then click on the link. If that doesn’t work, complete your registration by using the "cut" and "paste" functions to insert the link in the e-mail into the "Address" line on your Web browser. Cut and paste the entire link. It won’t work if you retype it. The problem may be the result of your e-mail system not “reading” an address on more than one line of text.
  • Not sure you’re registered? You can verify your registration online at www.donotcall.gov.
  • Not sure you’re registered and unable to verify? Simply re-register online at www.donotcall.gov or by phone at 1-888-382-1222.
  • Once you submit your registration online, you must take two additional steps to confirm your registration: First, you must open the email sent to you from REGISTER@donotcall.gov. Second, you must click on the link in the email to complete your registration.
