Extension of Public Comment Period:

  • The Commission has voted to extend the public comment period in the following matter from September 17,1999 until October 15, 1999: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Amend the Trade Regulation Rule on Power Output Claims for Amplifiers Utilized in Home Entertainment Products (Amplifier Rule). This rule standardizes the measurement and disclosure of power, distortion and other performance characteristics of amplifiers in stereos and other home entertainment equipment.
  • The Commission vote to extend the public comment period was 4-0; (FTC File No. P974222; see FYI dated July 22, 1999: Power Output Claims for Amplifiers Utilized in Home Entertainment Products; staff contact is: Neil Blickman, Division of Enforcement, Bureau of Consumer Protection, 202-326-3038.

Applications for Approval of Transactions:

  • The FTC has received an application for approval of a transaction from the following: Supervalu Inc. for the transfer of two stores to Piggly Wiggly Mid-South, Inc. These stores are located at 917 Division Street, Biloxi, Miss.; and 1225 Pass Road, Gulfport, Miss.
  • The FTC is seeking public comments on the application for 30 days, until October 19, 1999. Comments should be addressed to the Office of the Secretary, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580.
