Formal Interpretation of the Premerger Notification Rules: Through Formal Interpretation 16 (16 CFR § 803.30) of the Commission's Premerger Notification Rules, which appears in today's Federal Register, the FTC has changed the number of originally signed and notarized affidavits and certification pages that must be submitted with each premerger notification filing.

Until now, parties were required to submit five original affidavits and certifications. Under Formal Interpretation 16 (16 CFR § 803.30), only one original and four duplicate copies of affidavits and certification pages are required, reducing the burden on the parties filing such documents. Formal Interpretation 16 (16 CFR § 803.30) is effective upon publication. (FTC File No.P989316; media contact is Mitch Katz, 202-326-2161; staff contact is Thomas Hancock, 202-326-2946).
