Subject: High-Tech Warranty Project -- Comment, P994413
It would be nice if laws recognized the concept of free software and accomodated free software in a reasonable fashion. This would be first accomplished by the fact that some software is given away for free. If the software is given away for free, the authors should not be liable for anything that goes wrong with this software. If someone turns around and sells this free software, it should be expressly stated that the person selling the software is liable for anything that goes wrong with the software. There should be protections that keep the authors of the free software from being prosecuted from something that they made no guarantees through sale.
