RE: Online Profiling Project - Request to Participate, P994809 / Docket No. 990811219-9219-01

To Whom It May Concern:

On behalf of my company, AdKnowledge, I request to participate in the November 8, 1999 FTC / Department of Commerce workshop on online profiling. I would like to participate in both the third session of the workshop (Session III: The Role of Self Regulation). I believe I would add to the workshop in a variety of areas.

AdKnowledge is a leader in third party ad management, providing ad tracking and optimization technology to online marketers. AdKnowledge was the first company to deliver a web advertisement from a central server and the first to offer a media planning system for web advertisers. Our customers include some of the leading web advertisers and interactive agencies. Our approach is to track ad deliveries, ad clicks, site visits, leads and sales generated on behalf of our marketer customers. We then allow our customers to use this information to improve the targeting of their advertising. We do not collect personally identifiable information, but use anonymous information developed from clickstream activity to improve the return that marketers get from web advertising.

As Founder and Vice President of Marketing, I manage our external marketing efforts and focus on developing future products and services to enhance the value of web advertising for marketers. I look forward to providing a unique perspective on the value of self-regulation to achieve two goals: protecting consumer privacy and maintaining the viability of the web as an advertising medium. We have a unique opportunity to create a medium with incredible diversity and access if we can meet these dual objectives.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (650) 842-6508, or via email at dzinman@adknowledge.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

David Zinman
