Subject: Telemarketing Sales Rules

Sirs/Madam;

I strongly support the efforts to create a national do-not-call registry. Additionally, the FTC should require telemarketers to transmit Caller ID information on every call - instead of merely prohibiting telemarketers from blocking Caller ID systems.

Besides being extremely annoying, telemarketers appear to be privy to personal information (such as credit cards held by consumers, etc.), and they actively solicit personal information from consumers. I actively request that my name be taken off calling lists whenever I receive a telemarketing call. Sometimes this works, but most often it does not. Usually, the telemarketers informs me that I need to call a number in another state (on my own dime, of course). When I call these numbers, more often than not they ask me for personal information besides my phone number.

I'm told it is necessary in order to remove me. I have no idea what they do with this information.

As our world becomes more of a "global village", personal privacy becomes scarce. I strongly support efforts for a single do-not-call registry as a small step in protecting privacy.

Sincerely,
Ann Petit
