Subject: Telemarketing Review -- Comment. FTC File No. P994414.

These are comments from a pair of consumers regarding the Telemarketing Sales Rule. We have found the prohibition on telemarketers' calls to consumers who have asked to have their names taken off the call list to have been quite useful. It doesn't work in every case, but in most instances, when we ask a telemarketer to take our names off his list, we receive no further phone calls from that vendor.

With regard to the hours when telemarketing calls are permitted, we believe the telemarketers should be restricted from using the hours from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. This is a time when dinners are being prepared and eaten, and telemarketing calls at those hours tend to be disruptive and even more annoying than at other times.
