From: "Robert Ceremsak" <rjcgpc5@ecentral.com> To: HQ.DCMAIL3(FUNERAL) Date: Fri, Jun 4, 1999 9:31 PM Subject: 16 CFR Part 453 Regarding the Rule on Funeral Industry Practices, I will not make any specific recommendations. Rather, I would urge you to heed the recommendations of organizations who are primarily interested in the consumer. Other than the emergency room, I cannot think of a time where the consumer is more ill-prepared to make an important decision than at the time of a loved one's death. The Funeral and Memorial Society of America (FAMSA) and its member societies are in the vanguard in helping consumers to evaluate the funeral industry through publications and meetings. They also evaluate mortuaries, body and organ donations, cremation options so that consumers can pre-plan for their own inevitable funeral. For this reason ,I would recommend your giving FAMSA's amendments and additions more credence than organizations representing the funeral industry. Thank you, R J Ceremsak MD |
