From: Dean Magliocca <dean.magliocca@mindspring.com> To whom it may concern, My name is Dean Magliocca and I have recently gone into business for myself as a monument and casket retailer. Let me start by saying that I save the families of the deceased in some cases up to 800% on a casket or monument. Now if that doesnt tell you something about the industry nothing will. The funeral homes and cemeteries have done everything in their power to stop me from being successfull. This includes trying to charge me for handling fees and other misc. fees. All of this is in an effort to put casket and monument retailers out of business. Why do they want to do this? Simple, they want to be able to go back to the good old days where they were the only place to go (monopoly) and gouge customers at their most vulnerable time. The rule passed needs not be changed. If a handling fee is placed on third party sellers of caskets or monuments then you will be taking away all other alternatives to the consumer and giving back the unfair and disgusting amount of power and profit back to the funeral homes and cemeteries. Think about it hard, would you rather pay $799 for a fine casket or go to the funeral home and be forced to buy the same casket for $2500.00 just because their is no other place it can be purchased. Please do not put me and others who HAVE leveled the playing field out of business. Keep it the way it is, the competition that the funeral homes and cemeteries now hate, WILL BENEFIT THE CONSUMER they are of course what you should be concerned about. Sincerely Dean Magliocca |
