Comments of Privacy Journal an Independent Monthly on Privacy in a Computer Age

Concerning Consumer Privacy - P954807

Please consider this a comment and a "request to participate" in Sessions Two and Three, "Consumer Privacy 1997 - Request to Participate P954807."

I hereby incorporate my comments at the session held last June, which were ignored by the staff, and my letter to Jodie Bernstein dated June 18, 1996, which was ignored.

I believe that preparing comments in 1997 is futile. In the past three years, FTC staff have shown a bias in favor of the businesses they regulate, even reflecting the rhetoric of the corporate executives they meet with. Consumer representatives no longer have an equal chance to be heard at the FTC.

For evidence of this, see my letter to Mr. Medine dated January 30, 1997. While you are at it, can you get me a response to that letter?

Yours truly,
