Summary of Enforcement Action Announcements for January 2004 - April 2004
Between January 2004 and April 2004, the Federal Trade Commission continued to aggressively combat telemarketing fraud and abuse. The scope of the Commission’s enforcement efforts over this period is reflected in the following list of announcements regarding significant developments in 19 federal district court cases. The significant developments may include: new actions filed by the Commission; amendments to prior complaints; final resolutions of enforcement actions such as settlements, default and summary judgments; contempt proceedings; and redress distribution information. Several of the complaints filed in these cases allege violations of the Telemarketing Sales Rule. All of the cases involve the use of the telephone to market goods or services. This includes cold-call outbound telemarketing as well as inbound calls generated from advertisements or other solicitations to purchase products or services.
